VERBAL COMMITMENT ALERT: Manual Cass, F (Carbondale, IL)

Freshmen: Will Walker (PG), Manual Cass (F)

Jerry Wainwright and DePaul got a commitment signed, sealed and delivered at the very end of the early signing period when Carbondale Community High School F/C Manual Cass signed a letter of intent to join the Blue Demons next season. Cass is a very good athlete that stands between 6'6 and 6'7. Cass plays inside for his high school team and will have to work on making more or a transition to the wing for the college game, which is a difficult transition. However, he does have the ability to play both positions at the college level and can contribute immediately at the big forward postition. Bradley, Iowa, Baylor and USC were also under final consideration for Cass.

Cass is DePaul's final scholarship opening for the 2006-2007 season. For now, they can turn their attention to the 2007 recruiting class, where they look to have 4 potential openings to fill. With their move to the higher-profile Big East conference and Jerry Wainwright returning to his roots in the Chicago area, it looks like DePaul will make things very tough for other schools who routinely picked off the best talent in the Chicago area, as well as the rest of the state of Illinois.
