DARIUS SMITH - DEPAUL'S TOP TARGET??

Over the course of the past few weeks, Darius Smith and DePaul has been mentioned in the same breath quite often. Illinois PrepBullseye mentioned Smith as one of DePaul's top targets, and now the Chicago Sun Times blog has their opinion on Smith as DePaul's top target; These top targets would be ideal matches.

The scouting reports on Smith consistently praise him for his defensive abilities. A starter on the Marshall squad since his freshman year, Smith's scouting report also includes comments about how good of a teammate he is, as he is willing to do what it takes to win. His shot was questionable coming into this AAU season, and that, along with underexposure in prior years on the AAU circuit, likely kept high-major squads from strongly pursuing him. However, in the past few months, Smith has picked up high-major offers from Marquette, Minnesota, Baylor along with DePaul, as well as getting detailed looks at from Iowa State, Iowa, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

DEPAUL LOOKING IN-STATE FOR 2009

Per Illinois PrepBullseye, the DePaul Blue Demons have been focusing on guards for the class of 2009, and the guards they have targeted are local prospects Darius Smith from Marshall High School in Chicago and David Brown from Rockton Hononegah. Both guards have been playing on the Illinois Warriors AAU team this summer, along with Illinois verbal D.J. Richardson.

Additionally, DePaul has extended two offers to 2010 prospects, and again, it is local prospects. Lenzelle Smith, who has also states offers from Illinois, Ohio State, Virginia, Iowa State, is a 6'3" power guard from Zion-Bentono, who raised his profile at Reebok U this past month. The other 2010 offer for a local prospect is 6'1" Foreman High School guard Lavonte Dority. Dority has been compared to Kansas guard Sherron Collins. DePaul also continues to keep an eye on two local prospects who are extremely strong shooters, in 6'5" Alex Rossi from New Trier and 6'2" Ben Brust from Mundelein.
